Classic Mixed Drinks: The Aviation Cocktail - HomeWetBar
Gin is known for botanical aromas and flavors, which is why so many historical mixed drink recipes call for it. Before the age of artificial flavors and sugary mixers of every shape and size, gin gave bartenders and home entertainers a way to pack a punch of deliciousness with ease. The Aviation Cocktail is a floral bonanza, featuring gin, and an unusual liqueur known as Creme de Violette. It's distilled in Austria and made with essences of wildflowers from the Alps, including violets. Incorporating these two spirits with other fruity and citrus flavors gives you and your guests a unique drinking experience.

Aviation Cocktail Recipe

  • 2 oz Gin
  • 1/4 oz Creme de Violette
  • 1/2 of Maraschino Liqueur
  • 2/4 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Using a cocktail shaker, start with a scoop of ice. Pour in 2 shots of your favorite gin. We suggest Bombay Dry or Tanqueray 10. Add creme de violette and a half shot of maraschino liqueur. If you can't find maraschino liqueur, you can substitute another cherry infused spirit or even cherry brandy. There is no substitution for creme de violette, so be sure to locate a bottle before you gather the other ingredients. Squeeze and add the lemon juice next. Then shake for a few seconds to combine ingredients and chill. Strain the ingredients into a coupe-style cocktail glass. This mixed drink can also be served in a martini glass or a champagne flute. To really impress your guests (or a special lady), add edible violets as a garnish. Serve this cocktail right away, and enjoy this beautiful blast from the past. aviation-cocktail-recipe - 5 Easy Steps!
